Surviving Stressful Situations

A PEER P.A.L.S. CURRICULUM

A theme based program where group members participate in  social and behavioral challenges. For children with ASD, being social and interacting appropriately with typical peers is a challenge. By pairing students and PEER P.A.L.S. volunteers, children with ASD not only survive stressful situations, they have fun. PEER P.A.L.S. model, prompt and then reinforce group members with “tribal beads” for approximating appropriate responses. By earning tribal beads, members learn specifically what behaviors to repeat. For the teens, the FRIENDSHIP program is an adventure across time which offers the opportunity to challenge themselves to make and keep friends without the prompting of Peer PALS.
